Print Version

Tradescantia zebrina or spiderwort is a plant native to Mexico. Students will use pieces of leaves to search for stomata in Investigation 5. Spiderwort can easily be grown indoors or outdoors in mild climates. It is winter hardy in USDA Zones 8–12. Speak with your local nursery about obtaining a plant if they are not commonly available in your area. Once established, new starts can be propagated by cutting off a stem and placing in water, growing medium, or in a pot with moist soil-based potting mix.
